Ode to Nate

  • Feb. 8th, 2010 at 4:51 PM

I enjoy reading my cousin Nate's blog and I saw him getting kind of cozy with a cat named Dart. I don't particularly like cats. I find them to be mischievious and untrustworthy.  I hope that Nate is being cautious around his new friend Dart. In an effort to sway his affection my way, I wanted to take a moment to remind him of all the wonderful reasons he and I should be BFFs.

We’re both fun and rambunctious boys

Who like to play with lots of toys

We like to stare outside the door

And sometimes eat snacks off the floor

Go for long walks to the park

You speak with words, I speak through barks

We both adore Winnie the Pooh

He’s fun to steal away from you

Sometimes we both can’t help but drool

We both like swimming in a pool

Diapers are something we share

Please don’t switch to underwear

I know the grownups get real mad

You wear em, I tear em, is that so bad?

We like to rise before the sun

And try to wake up everyone

We may not always get our way

But our parents love us any way

I might have fleas and lick my feet

But Nate throws up in his car seat

And though Nate has a bigger brain

Sometimes we’re really both the same

Here's to us Nate! Bloggers and Buddies forever!

Your cousin
Buddy

Another Year More: Buddy Turns 4

  • Jan. 28th, 2010 at 7:33 PM

I can't believe that I'm already 4 years old. I definitly don't feel a day over 2.  To celebrate my big day, Grace and Steve took me shopping to Pet Goods last night for some new toys and treats.

These are the items I picked

The colorful mat has squeakers in every square, the bone is filled with peanut butter, and a rawhide baseball.

I also got another kind of bone that I swiped from a box near the register. Grace said I could have it since I made such a fuss over it. I enjoyed that when we got home from the store last night

However, my mom and dad really pulled out all the stops this year. They ordered me the ultimate gift...

A SNOW DAY

I woke up to about 2 inches of the white stuff. I spent the morning making snow angels and romping outside.

In the evening, I enjoyed a delicious frosty paw

And reading birthday greetings from my friend Nora (one of my mom's co-workers). She made me this cool card.

I just love birthdays. I can't wait till next year!

Oh, I almost forgot. Happy belated birthday to my cousin Nate and Uncle Stephen!

Cheers!
The Birthday Bud

What's Up With This Blog?

  • Jan. 27th, 2010 at 8:50 PM

I know most of you are wondering "did Buddy get too big for his own blog?" The answer is Buddy got too tired for his own blog. I'm really sorry for leaving all my faithful readers hanging. Grace and Steve have been keeping me so busy. As you know, they were working on their bathroom and they put me to work too!

Thankfully, the bathroom project is complete and old Budward is back to bloggin!

So just to refresh everyone's memory. This is what the bathroom looked like before.

This is what it looks like now...

I'm happy we're done. Now I can focus on what's truly important...providing new and exciting stories for my readers.

Stay tuned cause tomorrow is my birthday and I'm sure my parents have something special planned.

Talk to you soon! (and I mean it this time)

Oh Christmas tree, Oh Christmas tree

  • Dec. 18th, 2009 at 8:40 AM
That's right. The house and the tree are all decorated for christmas. There are even some presents under the tree. I think I saw one under there for me. I wasn't snooping or anything. I was walking by and oops, this present just slid out from the tree and landed in front of my paws. Here are some photos of the tree. I didn't help put it up but I'm doing my part by not breaking any ornaments or chewing the nativity.

I'll be celebrating Christmas early this year. We will be heading to Long Island to see Grandpa George and Grandma Cathy this weekend. I'm really excited because I hear I have a new cousin named Max. I can't wait to play with him! Well I gotta run. I have to pack my bags! See you later, Buddy the Elf

They're at it again

  • Dec. 15th, 2009 at 10:20 AM
Home renovations. I don't know why they put themselves through this? My parents master bathroom had seen better days and a few cracked floor tiles seem to just put them over the edge. It should also be noted that they hadn't been to the Home Depot for a while and were clearly in need of a fix.

Let's take a look at the bathroom before

Here is the construction zone currently

I am not at all pleased abou this renovation. For starters, time spent fixing the bathroom is time spent away from Buddy. Secondly, I have been displaced-forced to sleep in the guest room until this little project is finished and lastly, as usual I am not allowed to help. Apparently, eating drywall and stealing safety goggles is a crime or something. Well-here's hoping they make it through a new year and a new project. I'm not holding my breath, though!

Later,
Buddy

Let it snow, Let it snow, Let it Snow

  • Dec. 6th, 2009 at 5:46 PM
I can't even begin to tell you how exciting my Saturday was. I woke up around 7am, licked Grace's face and told her to get up and let me out. While sitting out on the patio, I could smell a storm coming...rain I thought. Even better...SNOW!

Grace opened the door around noon time and I couldn't believe my eyes. I grabbed one of Steve's socks and headed for the yard.
.

I ran

I jumped

but by mid afternoon it was becoming harder to see and my paws were getting cold

By early evening we had so much snow I could bury my face in it

Grace thought I looked so handsome witht the snow as my backdrop she kept taking pictures of me in front of the christmas decorations...oh brother

Here's looking forward to a white Christmas!
Yours Truly,

No Buddies in Boston

  • Dec. 5th, 2009 at 9:42 AM

Recently, Grace and Steve went to visit their friend Mary in Boston. When I saw them packing my bag, I thought for sure I would be going with them on their journey. WRONG!!! Grace said "Sorry, but Buddy's aren't allowed in Boston." So I went on a weekend retreat to the vet's office where I entertained the staff, mingled with other doggie guests, and got the best bath ever. My hair was fluffy for days. While I was having a pawsitively fabuous time, Grace and Steve were also enjoying themselves in Bean town. Since I wasn't able to be there, Grace and Steve made sure to take lots of pictures for me. Here are a few highlights from their trip.

The drive to Boston is about 4 hours, so to break up their trip and grab some lunch, Grace and Steve made a brief stop at the pizzeria made famous by Julia Roberts

Next stop
\

That's where Mary lives. She took Grace and Steve to the

To see the tree lighting

Afterwards they went to a local pub. Contrary to this photo, Mary was suprisingly sober!

The next day they took a behind the scenes tour of Fenway park. As you know, I love baseball so I was really jealous about this part of their trip!

Mary is looking impressive in the press box and sitting on a piece of history (these wooden seats are original to the ball park)

Afterwards it was time for luch so Grace, Steve, and Mary went to the one place in Boston where everyone knows your name

Then they followed the freedom trail shouting the "The British are coming" as they traveled in the steps of Paul Revere

Grace and Steve were so excited to have me back.. I guess I missed them a little bit too.

I guess I'll have to lobby a little harder for that "No dog left behind" act.
See you next time!

Getting Ready for Christmas

  • Nov. 11th, 2009 at 8:44 PM

Recently, I overheard Grace and Steve talking about Christmas and Grace said they needed to get their act together because she knew Grandma Mary was going to be asking for a list soon and if they don't have a list they won't get any presents. I happen to know that Grandma Mary gives out pretty good gifts and I don't want Grace and Steve's procrastination to ruin my holiday so I took matters into my own paws.

I helped myself to one of the catalongs they got in the mail

And I read it cover to cover in hopes of getting some ideas for my list

Luckily,  I think I came up with some good stuff.

I would like a plush new bed for upstairs
A subscription to the hot dog of the month club
A pack of new socks (not to wear but to chew)
A Squirl that squeeks
One of them there Snuggies

Gosh I love the holidays!  I've been dreaming about turkey and stuffing for over a week. Is it thanksgiving yet? I'm glad I got my list done early. Hopefully Grandma Mary and Santa will be able to take advantage of some great black Friday sales!

I gotta go to sleep now. My dreams are the only place I ever get all you can eat turkey!
Good night everyone!

A Little Boo and some PSU

  • Nov. 1st, 2009 at 1:06 PM

Halloween was awesome this year. Not only was it on a Saturday, it coincided with the PSU game vs Northwestern. So in the spirit of the holiday and the football season, their was only one costume for me.

A Nittany Lion.

Here I am waiting for some trick or treaters.

Want to get this look? It's easy, you need to somewhat resemble a Lion and then add the genuine Nittany Lion's scarf. You may be thinking this costume is too simplistic or boring on it's own but you should know that I had a partner for Halloween this year....

Turns out Coach Paterno stopped by

We hung out and signed autographs for the trick or treaters while supporting our favorite team

It was a great halloween. Lots of kids came despite the rainy weather. Grace's favorite costume was a girl who was dressed like the 1980's. I think it made her remember her youth. My favorite was Batman. He scared me and I tried to do my best Lion roar but a bark came out instead. The kids really seemed to like me and my costume. Some kids even petted me. I liked that. But by the end of the night I was pretty tired.

PSU won, I rocked my costume, Coach Paterno stopped by, and the kids loved me What more could a guy ask for? Hope your Halloween was just as spooktacular.

Your favorite Nittany Lion,
Buddy

Show Me the Money

  • Oct. 24th, 2009 at 9:53 AM

So a while back I posted my resume, hoping someone would hire me so I could help earn my keep at home. Since then, I've been busy taking on some acting roles and modeling gigs.

Most recently, you may have seen me in the men's catalog for LL Bean.

I also did a string of successful films for Disney called the "Air Bud" series.

Here I am on the cover of the popular magazie Fido Friendly

Click this link and you can see my Wrangler Jeans commercial with Brett Favre
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J2pIvg-2vEY

I also like to fetch minutes for AT&T
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NqdS1ZiA4E8

Most recently I stole the spotlight from Hilary Swank in the new film Amelia. I am hoping I get nominated for a Golden Bone. That's the canine version of a Golden Globe.

You may be thinking to yourself, wow Bud, you sure are successful. You must be rich! You would be wrong. I am still waiting for my royalty checks. I have contacted my agent several times but she is not returning my calls. Hollywood is not everything it is cracked up to be. I have to do a better job of reading the fine print in my contracts.

I'm always looking for new opportunities so  if you are in need of a  handsome dog to sell a product for you...

Have your people call my people.
Ciao,
Buddy T.

Rocking Out Jersey Style

  • Oct. 19th, 2009 at 9:46 PM
Grace and Steve recently celebrated their unofficial holiday of "Jersey Weekend". The usual suspects showd up-Chris, Michelle and Maverick. I was very upset to learn that Luigi was unavailable to attend thisyear. It just wasn't the same without him. This year, the part of Ian was played by John P. He patted my head and sang a mean "Lucy in the sky with Diamonds." A new addition to this annual holiday was Glenn, Karolyn, and Nate. Oh little Nate, how I love to lick your face and herd you. How about that-until Nate came to visit I didn't even know I could herd anything but Nate helped me realize some underlying skills.

The Thompson crew spent the morning over at the pumpkin patch. Here Glenn and Nate are goofing off.

This is the pumpkin Nate really wanted but his mom got him a munchkin (a tiny, unimpressive pumpkin) instead .

I'm pretty jealous that Nate got to go on a cool hay ride. Maybe if I'm really good, Grace and Steve will take me on a hay ride sometime.

After lunch the usual mayham ensued, as it was time to rock and boy do those New Yorkers know how to party.

Especially Nate, that kid loves the spotlight. He rocked the mic all afternoon.

As far as my 4 legged friend Mav, I'll be honest folks, he kind of got on my nerves. He barely played with me and spent all his time laying on MY bed and chewing all of MY toys.

I can't wait for NYC weekend, you skinny pointy eared thug. Raise the terror alert--Buddy T is coming to town.

All in all, I think everyone had a great time. I can't wait till next time.

By the way, has anyone seen Nate? He never said goodbye and I think he had some left over chocloate on his face I wanted to lick.

Nate? Where are you pal? Come out, come out wherever you are...

See you next tme,
Buddy

Congratulations Derek and Mairead!

Mom and dad took me with them to their friends weddig last weekend. Well-I didn't actually go to the wedding but I did have a wonderful stay at the LA Quinta Inn and suites in picturesque Armonk, NY.

The room was pretty nice and I even had my own bed. There was also a big window so I could keep an eye on the neighborhood.

There was lots of great places to walk by the hotel so I got walked a few times a day. When Grace and Steve left for the wedding, I chewed my new bone, relaxed in the air conditioning, and watched Everybody loves raymond. He is so funny. There was a break between the wedding and reception so Grace was able to come back, let me out, and spend some time with me before heading to the reception. I'll tell ya, the comforts of the LA Quinta sure beat the vet's office. I had a great time upstate and so did Grace and Steve. Here are some highlights from the wedding.

Well, everyone seemed like they had a really fun time at the wedding. I loved that Carmine and Tiffany came to visit me. I was sad to see them go when they left on Sunday. Tell Chase to make room, Buddy's coming to Houston!

This is Buddy T. signing off!

Sick As A Dog

  • Oct. 7th, 2009 at 10:26 AM

I'm not one to bog down my blog readers with my personal problems but I wasn't doing too good last week and wanted to use my experience as a platform to educate other canines on the risk of dumpster diving.

A few weeks ago, Grace was clearing the dinner plates into the trash. I lingered around hoping she would drop something on the floor. Well, she didn't so I had to take matters into my own hands. When she wasn't looking I quickly grabbed a small corn cob.  Grace ran after me in hot pursuit. I ran quickly from the kitchen into the living room onto my dog bed. I don't know why I think that is home base or something and Grace can't get me there. She came barelling on over and tried to wrestle the cob away but I refused to give in. By now I had already chompped down half of it so I gave her a small piece so she could feel good about herself. Yes sir, I had stolen a corn cob and bested Grace. I thought I had accomplished a fine victory. Flash forward a week later, I wasn't feeling so good. My tummy hurt real bad and I kept dry heaving. I ate grass to help me throw up and that seemed to help a little bit but after 3 days of this Grace had finally had enough and took me to the vet. They did some x-rays and thought it looked like that corn cob was stuck in my tummy. I didn't know what was going on. I just wanted to feel better. I was admitted to the hospital and had to stay over night.  They put me on an IV so I wouldn't be so dehydrated, they made me drink barium (yuck) but it made my stomach feel better and moved right through me which was good cause that meant I didn't need surgery. The next day, Steve picked me up and the vet sent me home with some medicine.

Originally I was supposed to be boarded at the vet's office over the weekend so mom and dad could go to their friend Derek's wedding but they felt bad making me go right back to the vet after I had been so sick so they decided to take me with them. I'll tell you all about that in the next blog.

So long story short-my fellow canines...trash cans have lids for a reason. Unless your humans offer you their food it is best not to steal it, as you will pay for it later. On the up side, I did drop a few pounds.

Till next time, this is Dr. Buddy Barker reminding you that table scrap is really crap.

Being in Baltimore: Part 2

  • Oct. 6th, 2009 at 9:30 PM

Sorry to keep everyone in suspense so long. I was feeling a bit under the weather but I'm feeling better and back to blogging.

So, you've already seen all the fun I had with Aunt Allie indoors. Now, let's take a walk outside and allow me to introduce you to one of  Baltimore's best  suburbs, Glen Burn.

To get me into vacation mode, Aunt Allie said "Aloha" and welcome to Glen Burnie.

I met a beautiful girl on vacation. We hung out a few times but I'm not really into long distance relationships. She called me a few times but I think it's best we just stay friends

Next, we headed on over to the park. I had the time of my life on the jungle gym and slide. I had never gone down a slide before. It was awesome.

I did some hiking and power walking as well. Staying in shape is very important to me. You can't take a vacation from physical fitness folks!

I had a fantastic time but I think I tuckered out Aunt Allie and her roommate Danielle. What can I say...I live life to the fullest. I like to see everything, taste everything, and explore everything.  Aunt Allie and Danielle were excellent hostesses. I can't wait to visit again!

I'm already planning my next stay. I think next time I'm going to book another spa appointment. Those baltimore baths are to die for!

Till next time,
Baltimore Buddy

Bones, Bathes, and Baltimore: Part 1

  • Sep. 27th, 2009 at 7:05 PM
Recenlty my parents went on vacation to Virginia but I got to go on a little vacation of my own. I spent the week in Baltimore with my Aunt Allie!   I have visited my Aunt Allie before but I've never stayed for a full week without my parents.  At first I was a little homesick and I missed my mom and dad. I stayed near the door waiting for them to come home.

Aunt Allie didn't want me to be sad so she told me to wipe the pout off my face and get excited cause we were going to the pet store.  Aunt Allie let me pick out some toys to keep me occupied during my stay. First, I chewed a very delectable rawhide bone followed by a green rope thing that Aunt Allie used to play tug of war with me.

Boy, after all that fun I was tired. I decided to take a bath to unwind. Actually, Aunt Allie filled the tub so she could take a bath but I jumped in instead. You snooze you lose!

After my luxurious soak, I decided to order room service and call it a night. Mmmmmmmmmmm.....lean pockets. I'm watching my weight after all.

The accomodations at Hotel Glen Burnie were great. Check out this bed. It was super comfortable.

I slept like a puppy! But there is still more to come. Stay tuned for part 2 as I get out and about and see all that Baltimore has to offer.

Till next time,

Buddy

The people have spoken and the following is the breakdown of votes for my middle name.

Bud "Ward" Thompson=1 vote
Buddy "Winston" Thompson=3 votes
Buddy "Crimps Paladores" Thompson=2 votes

And a write in vote and winner of the "Choose my middle name" contest is....drum roll

I think a friendship is "brewing"...(get it...brewing) between me and Killian and her neighbor Yuengling. Maybe mom and dad will get me a friend we can name Guiness.

Anyway. Thanks to all who cast their vote. Stay tuned for more contests to come from the Buddy Blog!!!

I need your opinion

  • Sep. 12th, 2009 at 9:16 AM
Grace and Steve recently returned from vacation. They brought me back a cool tote bag that has a golden retriever on it. It's great cause it has lots of pockets for my toys and my treats! My parents would like to have my new bag monogrammed. They can't decide if they should have it embroidered with my name "Buddy" or my initials. However, it occured to us, I don't have a miiddle name. So the search is on. Below are 3 names that are being considered for my middle name. I would appreciate your vote for the one that is your favorite. I am also open to suggestions should you want to add a write-in vote.

Ok here are the choices

1. Buddy "Winston" Thompson
2. Bud "Ward" Thompson
3. Buddy "Crimps Paladoras" Thompson

Voting will end  in 1 week.

Happy voting!

My Aunt Karen got married over the weekend so mom and dad had to go back to Long Island for the wedding. I thought I would be heading off to the vets office for a weekend of boarding but instead Grandma Mary and Grandpa Seve showed up and kept me company all weekend! They brought Killian along and we had fun running in the yard together. You know, I've heard people say that grandparents love to spoil their grandkids but I think its the same for dogs because I sure got spoiled this weekend. Not only did my grandparents come and take care of me, they took me to my favorite place, Hedden park.

Here I am with Grandpa Steve as we head out for a walk in the park

I didn't waste any time getting wet

Boy that water feels good. There's nothing like a good swim on a hot summer day!

I hope my mom and dad go away again soon so i can stay with grandma and grandpa, and Killian too, of course.

Thanks for a great weekend you guys!

Love your granddog,

Bark in the Park 2009

  • Aug. 11th, 2009 at 10:12 PM

Today started like any other day. Went for a walk. Ate breakfast. Played in the backyard. I really wasn't expecting much out of this Tuesday but Grace and Steve changed that. Grace came flying in the door after work and was running all around the house getting stuff. She packed my treats, a water bottle, my travel bowl and some other stuff in her bag. I followed her from room to room becasue I thought she might need my help. She took her bag out to the car and I figured she was going to go right back out and leave me behind but just then she came back and put my leash on. She was acting all excited when she strapped me in the car. The next thing I knew, we pulled in next to Steve's car and we walked up to a stadium with lots of dogs hanging around outside. Then it hit me! We're going to a baseball game!!!! My favorite!!! There were so many dogs and lots of goldens too!

This stadium allows dogs and their owners to sit anywhere they want so we chose to sit on the grassy knoll. It allowed us to stretch out and mingle with the other dogs.

The best part was the pet parade. Steve and I got to run around the field

Grace and Steve treated me to a hot dog and I helped myself to Steve's Churro. Yum. There was even a special appearance by Shaggy and Scooby. I was pretty star struck. I met lots of nice dogs and I hope we can do it again next year.

My parents sure are full of surprises and like to keep me on my paws. I had a great time at the ball park! Thanks again Grace and Steve!
